I received a question today that I think quite a few people have :
I have a website that is 4 months old and has been on page 1 of Google on and off since I published it. It appears that the Google dance is in place now. Would it be too much for me to use article directories submissions at this point? I have been told that to do more than 5 article submissions at one time may sandbox it. But it does need more backlinks to be truly competitive.

It is really a 2 part question so that is how we will answer it, first you really need to understand what the Google dance is and why it is happening. For those of you that don’t know about the Google dance it is when your site bounces all over the search rankings one day it might be on the first page then the next day its on page 3 and three days later its back to the first page for your keyword.
Basically the dance is Google trying to determine how relative your site is to your keywords and the way it does this is through links back to your site and the anchor text those sites link back with. During the dance google is looking for patterns in sites linking back . So one day when you are on page 1 it might have found 20 sites with new links back to your site and great anchor text all of a high page rank value , so it looks like in Google’s algorithms eyes that your site is very relevant to your keyword but the next day it finds no new sites linking back and the day following that no new sites now the algorithm takes a second look and determines this site isn’t as important as we thought so they drop it in the rankings and this keeps continuing as you build links and becomes very frustrating for most website owners.
How to stop the Google Dance
I am going to tell you a huge secret here , something I tell all my clients over and over again the best way to stay number 1 in the search engines is to have a plan and work your plan. You have to be consistent with link building give Google what they want relevant back links everyday . Most people cringe when they here that and ask how do I build back links everyday, well no one said ranking a website was easy if it was everyone would be making a fortune online. It takes a lot of hard work whether you do it yourself or hire a company like Seo Las Vegas YOU HAVE TO BE CONSISTENT and this process never ends as long as you want to be on the top.
Now lets tackle the 2nd part of the question will 5 backlinks to my site hurt it , the simple answer is no. Think about a site that is lucky enough to be talked about on CNN , they are going to go viral and get tons of new backlinks and continue to get backlinks so Google sees relevance and rewards that site with top rankings . So the moral to the whole story is yes you have to backlink your site , have a long term plan and follow it and you will see the results of your hard work.
